A Guide to Enjoying Greek Wine

Welcome to our guide for getting the most out of your wine experience. From understanding bottle sizes to serving at the perfect temperature, these simple tips will help you enjoy every bottle of ELLAΔΑ wine to the fullest. We believe that a little knowledge can unlock a world of flavor.

Choosing Perfect Size

Not every occasion calls for a standard bottle. We offer a range of sizes to suit your needs, ensuring the perfect pour every time.

750ml (Standard Bottle): The classic choice, perfect for sharing between 2-4 people over dinner. Contains approximately 5-6 standard glasses of wine.

500ml & 187ml (Smaller Formats): Ideal for a solo glass, a picnic, or for when you want to sample a new variety without opening a full bottle.

50ml, 200ml & 700ml (Spirits): Our traditional Greek spirits like Ouzo and Masticha come in various sizes, from a small sample to a full bottle perfect for sharing with friends.

Unlocking the Flavors

Serving wine at the correct temperature can dramatically enhance its aroma and taste. A common mistake is serving red wines too warm and white wines too cold. Here's a simple guide:

Full-Bodied Red Wines (e.g., Xinomavro, Syrah): Serve at a cool room temperature, around 16-18°C. If your room is warm, don't be afraid to put the bottle in the fridge for 15 minutes before serving.

Light-Bodied Red Wines (e.g., Liatiko): Serve slightly cooler, around 13-15°C.

Dry White & Rosé Wines (e.g., Assyrtiko, Malagouzia): Serve chilled, but not ice-cold, between 8-12°C. Take it out of the fridge about 20 minutes before pouring to let the complex aromas open up.

Sparkling Wines: Serve well-chilled, at 6-8°C, to preserve the delicate bubbles.

Keeping Your Wine Happy

Proper storage will ensure your wine tastes just as the winemaker intended. While most of the wines we sell are ready to be enjoyed now, following these tips will keep them in perfect condition.

Keep it Cool: Store your wine in a cool, dark place with a stable temperature, ideally between 12-18°C. A cellar is perfect, but a quiet cupboard away from radiators or appliances will also work well.

Store Sideways: If your wine has a cork, storing the bottle on its side is essential. This keeps the cork moist, preventing it from drying out and letting air spoil the wine.

Avoid Light & Vibration: Keep your bottles away from direct sunlight and strong vibrations, as these can negatively affect the delicate compounds in the wine over time.
